Don’t be surprised, Secretary Kerry, when Iran has nukes, and gives them to someone who will use them.

Who Pays The Price?

As the USA and EU threaten yet more sanctions against Russia if they invade the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, we should consider who really pays the price of sanctioning. Putin will keep right on doing what he is doing, no matter what the price to the people. So the people of Ukraine and Russia are the ones who are paying the price, in blood, and economically. Thousands have died in the conflict, and a million and a half people have been displaced. Not only has the Russian Ruble tanked, but the Ukrainian Hryvnia has gone from around 8 to around 30 per dollar since the crisis. Food prices are astronomical. Salaries are down lower than before the crisis. Unfortunately, the Russian people (seem to) keep supporting Putin, because he controls the information, and because dissenters take their lives in their hands for dissenting.

During the cold war, the USA gave millions of bushels of grain to Russia, while Russia continued to use its money and resources to build more nuclear weapons. Yet another example of how liberal “compassion” has helped people. As the con-man said, “There’s a sucker born every day.” Unfortunately, most of them are born in the USA.

Putin has paid no price for the takeover of Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. Nor has anyone paid a price for the shoot down of the Malaysian Airliner over Eastern Ukraine. (Did you forget about that one? Most probably have.) No one has paid the price, because everyone is afraid of the big bully Putin, because they don’t want to “police” the world, or because Putin has hinted the use of nuclear weapons. No one will give the Ukrainians weapons to defend themselves because they are afraid they “might make Putin mad, and he might invade Ukraine.” So they just allow him to play his little game of lies, and incrementally take over someone else’s country. Look out all former Soviet countries.

Russian controlled media continues to pump out propaganda that the West was taking over Ukraine and that Putin had to invade to protect Ukraine. But when you talk to the Ukrainian people, especially the young people, you hear the reality of the situation. When they started traveling outside of Ukraine, they realized there was a completely different reality outside their country, and that they could have a better life. Many just left, but some wanted to change things in Ukraine. They didn’t want to put up with having their country ruled by Russian proxies, being robbed by their politicians, and the attitude that big brother Russia was doing Ukraine a favor by letting it feign its independence. If Ukraine had not of given up its nukes under the Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances that its sovereignty would be respected (and that Russia, the USA, and the UK signed), we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

Have we all forgotten the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction? If Putin ever uses nuclear weapons, he’ll have to use them all, and all at once. Because as soon as his first one is launched, the only thing worth anything in Russia – Moscow, and maybe St. Petes – will be toast. (Unless we still have a Democrat for a president, and then we’ll probably just have more sanctions.)

Yes, there may be a few little soldiers which are devoted to the motherland, sitting in silos, continuing to launch missiles. Problem is, there won’t be a motherland left. And if there was anything left, Russia would be the scourge and enemy of the world, including China. Yes, we remember Russia. They destroyed the world before we destroyed them.

Of course, Obama and his ilk have created this whole problem, by not acting quickly, decisively, and militarily. Negotiations with liars are only possible when accompanied by force. As Ronnie Reagan said, “Trust, but verify.” John Kerry acts shocked that Russia has lied to him to his face. What did he expect? Probably the same thing Obama expected when he told Medvedev to tell Vladimir he’d have more flexibility after the election. He must have thought Putin was a good socialist like himself, who’d join with him to save the world from capitalism. How naive. Don’t be surprised, Mr. Secretary, when you find out Iran has nukes, and that they’ve given them to someone who will use them.

If you don’t stand up to a bully and a blackmailer, you are a slave to that bully. And once again, just as before WW2, very few are standing up. We don’t want to tarnish the legacy of the Great Savior who has solved all the world’s problems. You know, the one who said, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.” Yes, the ones who sit on their ass and sanction as Rome burns.
